Absences
Good
attendance is strongly encouraged and recognized each year. But whenever
your child must be absent, we ask that you call the school office to report
the absence. Messages may be left on the answering machine.
This procedure is to ensure your child's safety. To pick up your
child's missed work, please call the school office prior to 10:00 a.m.
in order for teachers to have work in the office by 3:10. More information
regarding attendance policies can be found in the student handbook.
Picking
Up Students
Please
come to the office to check a child out of school for doctor's appointments
or other family business. Please be prepared to show identification
with a picture. Our goal is to know all families personally, but
this takes us some time. Family members and friends' names should
be on a registration cards in order to pick up your child.
Classroom
Visitors
Parents
and grandparents are encouraged to be frequent guests at school.
You are welcome to visit and observe in classrooms, but also encouraged
to schedule with teachers as a courtesy. The safety of your children
is a high priority at Las Colinas Elementary. For this reason, all
parents and other guests are required to check into the office and wear
a visitor's pass while at school. We greatly appreciate your assistance
with this important procedure, which is designed to better ensure the safety
of your children.
Withdrawal
Procedures
To
withdraw students from Las Colinas Elementary, the school office must be
notified one school day prior to the date of withdrawal. Grade averaging
and withdrawal paperwork take considerable time to prepare by staff.
The withdrawal form will be provided only after all library and textbooks
have been returned.

Nutritious
hot lunches are served daily for All Day Kindergarten-5th grades. Families
are provided monthly menus in order to make choices prior to going to lunch.
Lunch tickets are sold though the cafeteria each morning before school.
Buying tickets for an extended time have proven to ne beneficial and most
efficient. Free and reduced price lunches are provided for students
with financial hardships. Applications for this program are available
in the school office. Parents are welcome to join us for lunch at
anytime.

Medication
All
student medication, prescription or non-prescription, must be in the original
container and properly labeled. For the safety of all children, the
medication must be stored and dispensed in the nurse's office. The

Volunteer
opportunities always exists in small and larger ways. Please see
PTA or office personnel to find the perfect volunteer job for you.
All volunteers will need to come into the office to check in and
receive a visitor's pass, and be cleared by a criminal history background check
before beginning to volunteer. We greatly appreciate your assistance
with this important procedure, which is designed to better ensure the safety
of your children.
