Dear Students and Parents,                                              24 August 2009

I would like to welcome you back for another exciting year at Ted Polk Middle School.  If you are new to our school I’m sure you’ll enjoy our staff and campus. My name is Jeff Koroly and I have the pleasure of teaching Math Fundamentals for grades 6, 7 and 8.  I look forward to assisting your child reach the goals they have set for this year.

Our school uses Make Your Day.  This citizenship and character building program allows our students to take responsibility for their actions and encourages personal growth.  Please check planners to see assignments and any notes from me if your child chooses steps during class.  The third time a student chooses steps your child will call from our classroom.  We want to keep a positive learning environment, limit distractions and encourage success!  Each class will go over expectations and procedures the first few days.  We will agree and post these expectations to remind students of our agreement.

Grades for class are homework, summative (tests) and formative.  Students should read the next assignment each night and be prepared for class.  Taking Cornell notes is recommended, each unit has vocabulary which includes drawing a picture and making a word for the word wall.  Students will get one copy of all CMP sections and should keep handouts, notes etc. in their binders.   I hope this will help encourage our students to better organize for this class and their future.

Thank you and feel free to call or e-mail anytime.

Sincerely, Jeff Koroly
