| Fundamentals and Modified Math SYLLABUS 2008/2009 Room D1420 Mr. Kelson Conference 4th period Course Description: Through lectures, discussions, applications and multimedia, this course will prove to the student the fundamentals and basic understandings of math principals regarding one of the following areas, Fundamentals of Algebra, Fundamentals of Geometry, Fundamentals of Math Models and Modified Math. It is my hope that the student will be able to understand the relationship of Math and the role that it is used in the world.
Course Objectives: To identify and recognize basic principles in solving math problems as they regard to your course. To strengthened the student’s foundation of mathematical reasoning and its applications. To develop skills that are necessary to master mathematical concepts as it relates to objectives regarding basic math, algebra, geometry and math models. Grades will be based on your achievement of these as well as your IEP objectives.
Course Requirements: I expect you to attend class and complete all assigned work. Grades will measure your performance on quizzes, exams, daily work and homework. Class participation and discussion are also required. Some homework, when dually noted will count as an exam grade. THE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE ALL COURSE WORK. YOU WILL HAVE HOMEWORK. YOU WILL NEED EVERYDAY TO BRING PAPER AND PENCILS ALONG WITH YOUR STUDENT ID. I WILL NOT PROVIDE THESE BASIC MATERIALS FOR YOU! Late work will be accepted but will result in a grade drop to be determined by me.
ATTENDANCE: You will be responsible for attending class and realize the consequences of failing to do so. IF YOU ARE NOT IN YOUR SEAT WHEN THE BELL RINGS YOU WILL BE COUNTED TARDY. It is critical to be on time. Only valid excuses from administration or a teacher in the form of an excused pass will be accepted. CONDUCT: Be punctual, Be prepared and Be polite. Failure to recognize and abide by these three simple rules will not only affect your conduct grade but at my discretion could also have an impact on your numerical grade. You are responsible for collecting missed assignments, including DMC. Distracting behavior during class will not be permitted. Academic work that is dishonest/cheating will result in an “F” for the assignment in which the violation occurs. Student dress code will be enforced at all times in my class. Behavior Expectations · Be Prompt: You are expected to be seated and ready to begin class when the bell rings.Remember: 3 tardies = 1 unexcused absence and if you are tardy you will be taken to the Tardy Hall for the remaining class period.· Be Prepared: You are expected to have all of your supplies ready and assignments completed when the bell rings. · Be Polite: You are expected to be polite and respectful of all people and objects around you. · Be Positive: You are expected to keep a positive attitude and give your best effort at all times. · Participate: You are expected to listen, take notes, ask questions, take part in class discussions, and complete assigned work.
Procedures 1) Enter quietly and in an orderly manner. 2) You are required to have your core notebook and all supplies in class each day. 3) You are required to write down your assignments/learning goals in your planner every day. This will be checked by each core teacher. If you have no homework, you are to write the words “no homework”. 4) Work is to be completed and turned in on the assigned due date. If work is not complete and returned on time, you will be given one day to complete work for loss of points. 5) You will be dismissed by the teacher, not the bell. Your work area must be neat and clean before you will be dismissed.

CORE NOTEBOOK AND SUPPLIES
All students will be REQUIRED to have a CORE notebook during the 2007-2008 school year. The purpose of this notebook is to simplify organization for every student. The faculty and administration feel having one notebook that contains the materials they need for their CORE classes will help students stay organized and be more successful. CORE classes are English, History, Math and Science. The CORE notebook will consist of the following: 3” ring binder only (any color) Package of 5 dividers (one for each CORE class and one for notebook paper) White notebook paper Pen/pencil pouch with rings to fit in binder Blue or Black pens Pencils School Planner (required – you may get it in the front office.) All students must have CORE notebook and above supplies by Tuesday, September 4th. All students will be required to have this notebook with them everyday in each of their core classes.
