Spelling


 

Monday:

Sort the words into categories according to the patterns represented by the BOLD printed words on the list.

Ask your child to explain why the words are sorted in a particular way.

Have them show you the pattern the words have in common.

Ask your child to sort the words a second time, and to do it as quickly as they can.


 

Tuesday:

BUDDY SORT

lay down  a word from each category as a header and then read the the rest of the words aloud.

Your child must indicate where the word goes without seeing it.

Lay the word down and let your child move it if s/he is wrong.

Repeat if your child makes more than one error.


 

Wednesday

Word hunt assists your child in looking for words in a familiar book that have the same sound, pattern, or both.

Try to find four or five for each category.

Please make sure to record this in your spelling spiral.


 

Thursday:

Writing Sort is to prepare for Friday's test.  As you call out the words in random order, your child should write them in categories.

Call out any words you child misspells a second or even a third time.

This should be recorded in your spelling spiral.


 

Friday:

Spelling Test!
