First Grade

Kid Pix In Social Studies, first grade students learned about feelings and how all people express their feelings through their facial expressions, words and actions.  Students used Kid Pix to draw a self portrait and add words to show all the feelings that they can have.

In Science, first grade students learned about living and non-living things.  They learned about the criteria for being a living being.  Using Kid Pix, students sorted stamps to show things that are living and non-living. This example even shows deeper thinking: a dinosaur which once was living but now is not and several pieces of fruit which were living while on their plant but are no longer living once they are picked.

Kidspiration

In Math, first grade students were learning about how to create and read graphs.  Students completed a simple survey to collect data from their classmates about a pet they would like to have.  They used the data to create a graph in Kidspiration to create a simple picture graph.

In Social Studies, first grade students were learning about their role as a citizen of their country.  They were learning that being a citizen, you have roles and responsibilities.  Using what they learned in class, students used Kidspiration to create a simple bubble map showing things that good citizens would do.

Research All first grade students read and learned to highlight important facts in a simple article.  They then created a bubble map with important details from their research.

First Grade GT students chose a country to research.  They had specific criteria for their research.  They used a website called CultureGrams to find most of the information.  Some information was found from other websites.  They then took their research and created a PowerPoint presentation when they presented to their classmates.
