First Grade News from Mr. James'

What we are studying:

Language Arts -- Students will learn to recognize and sound out long "a" vowels. Students will  learn to write three and more word sentences.

Spelling Words: Students will learn to spell sight words such as; that, what, said, about, my. Also, word family- am: Sam, Pam, ham, mam, jam, clam, dam, ram, slam .

Reading: Student will choral read the story "Peanut Butter and Jam" . Upon completion of reading story student will discuss and answer higher order thinking questions. Focus will be on comprehension and main idea.

 Math- students will learn about solid Figures. We will name the figures and sort them. Such figures as; spheres, cylinders, cubes, pyramids and rectangular prisms .

Science/Soc. Studies  Students will learn  about living and non-living parts of a pond, ocean and lake. .

Homework: Students must read guided reading books at least 15 minutes a day and return the book back to school daily . Also, practice spelling words.
