The NSHS Math Dept. is committed to providing an excellent math program.  The following class standards are to encourage students to take full responsibility for their behavior and learning so they can reach their full potential.  Every person in this classroom is expected to behave as a responsible and mature person.  All the rules of the school and classroom are to be followed at all time. Each person will be held accountable for their actions.

Supplies:  (bring to class every day)

* covered textbook                                          * pencil with eraser

* 3 ring binder                                                  * loose-leaf notebook paper

* calculator

Tutoring:   Tuesday 6:45 – 7:25 and Thursday 2:35 – 3:15

Class Expectations:

       Follow all school rules (tardiness, profanity, beepers, dress codes, ids, etc.)

       Be prepared for class each day with materials and assignments.

       Bottled water is the only beverage allowed in class room.

       No food or candy is allowed in the class.

       No gum chewing is allowed.

       No fundraising in class.

       Absolutely no passes out of class.

       You are expected to be courteous and cooperative at all times.

Detention: It is the student's responsibility to inform the parent and provide for his/her transportation.  Failure to serve the detention will result in a referral sent to the administrator's office.

Tardies:  Each student must be in his/her assigned seat with the required supplies when the bell rings or a tardy will be given.  Refusal to sign the tardy log will result in a referral to the administrator's office.

Hall Pass:  Students will only be allowed to use the hall pass at the discretion of the teacher.

Calculators:   Students are responsible for calculators just as they are for their textbooks.  The current replacement cost for the calculator if it is not returned in good working condition is approximately $100.  The TI-89 calculator will not be allowed in any math class at NSHS.

Absences:  It is the student's responsibility to make up any work missed due to an absence.  Homework is to be turned in the next class period.  Students who are present on the day of the quiz/test will be expected to take it as scheduled.  Students that are absent on the day of a quiz/test must have it completed within one week and during tutorial times.  Remember, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have completed all work.

Cheating:   CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!  Taking another student's work and claiming it as your own, with or without the student's permission, is considered cheating.  Group work does not mean copying your partner's paper.  Talking and eyes roaming during quizzes or tests is considered cheating and will result in zeros for all parties involved.  Using or having a cell phone out (on lap, in open purse/bag, etc.) is considered cheating.  The phone will be taken up and turned in to the office.  If you are caught cheating (this includes the person copying and the person contributing), you will be given a zero with no chance to redo the assignment.  NSHS students are expected to be honest and behave in an ethical manner.

Grading:    Nine weeks grades are based on the following scale:

                   Homework                             15%

                   Quizzes/Classwork                 25%

                   Summative grades (Tests)  60%

 Retest Policy: Retests will only be allowed under extreme circumstances.

Assignments:    All work is expected to be neat, organized, legible, and written in pencil. Any work done in ink will result in a 10 point penalty.  Homework will be given most days to increase the students understanding of the material.   Homework is to be done outside of class time and should be ready to check or turn in at the beginning of class on the due date.  A zero will be given if the assignment is not legible with all work shown or incomplete assignments.  Late work will not be accepted for credit.  Homework missed due to an absence must be turned in by the following class period.  Quizzes and tests are given at appropriate times to assess the student's learning without guided assistance.  If you are having difficulty with a topic please attend tutorials before the quiz or test!

Notebook: Because organizational skills are extremely important, each student is expected to maintain a notebook in this class.  You must bring your notebook to class every day.  To encourage students to keep up with their notebook, a notebook grade may be taken at any time.
