What do we do in the IBA?

All IBA classes take two field trips per semester to local businesses for presentations about how that business operates financially, their marketing and advertising plans, and their customer development plans.

We host informative seminars like a Business Etiquette Luncheon, Career Day, College Career Night, and Networking Lunches once a nine week period for all IBA students.  The IBA also hosts an End of the Year Banquet to celebrate our school year of successes and pay tribute to our graduating seniors.

We host an array of guest speakers in the IBA classes thru out the school year. We take Junior IBA students on a domestic trip in the Fall semester and Seniors travel to Europe during their Spring Break. We have three fundraisers per school year. The profits are applied to the student’s trips.

In November we recruit in the Middle Schools for the Freshmen Class, presentations are held for all 8th graders and their parents.

Our students compete in DECA, which is a student marketing organization, with many IBA students competing at the state and international levels.

Each IBA student is also required to complete 10 hours of community service per school year.

Toronto Canada Fall '08

Early on a Wednesday morning, juniors, along with ten sophomores, met at Newman Smith and departed to DFW Airport. They arrived in Canada three hours later. The purpose of the trip was to meet with the President of Microsoft Canada, Mr. Sorgen. The experience was very beneficial because the IBA student received an out of country experience along with helpful international business tips.

Along with the exciting opportunity for the juniors to meet with the president of Microsoft Canada, they also were able to go see many attractions all over Toronto. They had the chance to view the beautiful Niagara Falls, see why Toronto was one of the most diverse cities in the world, and learn how the Canadian economic and government system works. All in all Canada allowed students to experience how other countries conduct business and gave them the ultimate opportunity of being able to see one of the seven wonders of the world, making this Canadian experience something the students will carry with them for a lifetime.
