Who Is Miss Hulsebus?
My name is Dawn Hulsebus and I was born in Brookings, South Dakota (the best state in the world). I moved to Texas when I was 9yrs. old, due to my dad’s job. I was so excited to be in Texas and thought that I was soooo cool. When school registration came around I realized that I would be attending Furneaux Elementary. I stayed at Furneaux from grades fourth through sixth, and loved it. The amazing thing is that one of my former teachers is still there (Miss Lemons). I feel very honored to be working with her today.
As time passed I graduated from Dan F. Long and then Newman Smith in 1998, and I didn’t know what to do at that point. I knew I needed to do something, but what to choose was the question of everyday. Finally, I realized that ever since I was a little girl I loved to teach. I would sit my little brother down and preach (teach) to him. My brother is seven years younger than me, so I felt that I had the right to teach him things. One day I woke up and decided to become a teacher.
I never thought that December 3, 2004 would roll around, but it did. This was the BIG day, I was graduating from the University of Texas at Dallas with a teaching degree. I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of my family. My mom works at Rosemeade and is the cashier there. My dad, sells Ford cars at Bob Tomas Ford in McKinney. My brother graduated from Creekview High School in 2006 and graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2009. My brother teaches seventh grade History and coaches football at Bush Middle School. Oh and of course, I have a beautiful 8 year old daughter named Kaeyla. She has made me realize that when times get tough, press on. There is never a dull moment and she loves being at Furneaux Elementary. I also have to give credit to Mrs. Lackey, who took me under her wing as her third grade student teacher. She was so wonderful and I learned a lot from her. Also, Mr. Cunningham who has been a great support to me and has given me several opportunities in getting a full experience of what a teaching is like. He opened up a fifth grade position for me for the spring of 2005 where I learned a lot of new and interesting things. As that school year was coming to an end Mr. Cunningham approached me about fourth grade and as soon as he offered the position, I accepted. I taught fourth grade for four years and now I am honored and very excited about going back to fifth grade. I am so proud to be apart of Furneaux Elementary (the best school in the world). I am looking forward to a GREAT year with you and your child.
