How to Access Service
Early Childhood InterventionChildren with disabilities are eligible for special education services from ages 3 through 21. Carrollton-Farmers Branch serves children with auditory and/or visual impairments from birth. Parents of children with other developmental delays from birth to 36 months may wish to contact Special Care and Career Services Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECI) at 972-991-6777. Carrollton-Farmers Branch provides evaluation for preschool age children. Referrals are received primarily from parents, physicians, and the Early Childhood Intervention Agency for children residing within Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. A Student Success Team committee reviews the referral information to determine the need for and scope of the evaluation. Eligibility for special education services is based on the results of the evaluation by the multidisciplinary team.
Child FindCarrollton-Farmers Branch has ongoing public awareness efforts to identify and evaluate individuals birth through 21 years of age who may have a suspected disability and need special education services. These efforts include advertising the availability of services through media, public notices, staff training, and letters to private schools, physicians, nursing homes, group homes, and hospitals.
In-district ReferralsThe campus follows the Student Success Team (SST) procedures when referring a student with a suspected disability to special education. A Full Individual Initial Evaluation (FIE) is conducted to determine the child's eligibility and need for special education services.
Non-public School ChildrenReferrals are accepted primarily from parents, private schools and physicians for students who reside in CFBISD and attend private or home school. A Student Success Team reviews the data to determine the need for and the scope of the evaluation. Results of the Full Individual Initial Evaluation determine eligibility and the need for special education services.
Transfer StudentsStudents who transfer to CFBISD and have been identified as eligible for special education and received services in their former school district are eligible for services in CFB on a temporary 30-day placement. During this time, CFB staff may conduct additional evaluations to determine continued eligibility for special education services.
Admission Review and Dismissal Committee (ARD)In order to be in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations an Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee convenes to establish the needs of students who have been referred for special education services, or are already receiving special education services. The ARD committee, including the parent, administrator, evaluation staff and teachers familiar with the student's needs will make decisions concerning the educational program for each student.
