If you know your child is going to be absent ahead of time, please notify your child's teacher of the dates of absence. If your child is absent on any given day, please notify the school office on the morning of the absence by calling 972-968-1900. Students who have been absent must bring a note from a parent (or doctor if applicable) stating the dates and reason for the absence in order for an absence to be considered excused. State law requires that students be present for 90% of the school days. A child who is not present for at least 90% of the days may be subject to mandatory summer school or retention. A
student is counted tardy if he/she arrives in the classroom after 8:05 am. If so,
he/she must report to the office first to get a pass to go to class.
Three tardies equal 1 absence. |

Can
I celebrate my child's birthday at school? If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with the class, please talk to the teacher before sending anything to school. We cannot serve cake or cupcakes at school. We’d like to suggest you send pencils or stickers for the class, or donate a book in your child’s honor to the classroom library. |

What if my child needs after school care? There are several privately owned daycares that offer pick-up services from our campus. We are also very fortunate to have a district run after school program in our cafeteria. Click here to read about our After the Bell program. |

At dismissal time, children are released from their classrooms to go home for the day. Please refrain from waiting for your child at classroom doors or windows as this can be a great distraction as teachers try to give final directions or information at the end of the day. Daycare students are dismissed to the front of the school where they will be supervised until they board their daycare van. Students attending the After the Bell program in our school cafeteria will go straight to the cafeteria at dismissal time. Kindergarten through second grade students are dismissed through the east doors (on Denton Drive) and will wait by grade level along the sidewalk next to the circle drive. It is very important that we keep the crosswalk area clear to allow teachers easy access to be sure that students are crossing safely. Because of this, please refrain from standing in the marked area between the doors and the crosswalk. If you walk to meet your child, please try to wait to the side and let your child walk to you. Teachers and safety patrol students will be on duty to help your child into their car. It is best if you wait in either of the two car lines, pull up at the curb as far down as traffic allows, and let your child walk to your car. In order to allow as many cars as possible at one time, you will be asked to pull down to fill any empty spaces along the curb. For the safety of all students and parents, please be sure to watch for teachers and safety patrol students and follow their directions in the parking lot and circle drive. Third through fifth grade students are dismissed through the south (main door to the school) or west (down by the gym) doors and wait in the front lawn of the school near the circle drive. If a student in 3rd -5th grade has a younger sibling in K - 2nd grade, they may walk around to the east side of the building and wait with their sibling. Parents may pick up all their children in the area where the youngest child is dismissed. All students will be expected to wait in the designated area. Please help us with this by picking your child up in the designated area. |

R.E. Good Elementary uses the district's standardized dress policy. The dress code is as follows: SHIRTS: PANTS: Docker style slacks or shorts will be navy blue or khaki. Girls may also wear navy blue or khaki skirts, skorts, jumpers or Capri pants. Shorts, skirts and skorts must be at fingertip length or longer when the arms are extended down the side of the leg. SHOES: Students will attend PE daily. Closed toe shoes should be worn every day for safety in running and other physical activities. No flip flop style shoes should be worn. Families may find all of these items at reasonable prices at local retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, J.C. Penny, Mervyns, Old Navy and others. SPIRIT DAYS: Students may wear R.E. Good Elementary Spirit shirts on
Fridays with jeans. Spirit wear will be sold at school throughout the year
by PTA. If a spirit shirt is not worn, then the standardized dress
must be worn. In addition to these guidelines, students dress must also follow the dress code standards as outlined in the parent handbook issued at the beginning of the year. Click here to visit the district Dress Code Policy. |

What if I need to pick my child up early
from school? There may be times when your child will need to leave school early. If this is the case, please go to the school office at the time your child needs to leave school. The office will notify the teacher to send the child to meet you in the office where they will be signed out. Please be aware that it may take several minutes for your child to clean up and pack their backpacks to prepare to go home and arrive a few minutes earlier to allow for this delay. Should the child return later in the day, just bring them to the school office and sign them in again. They will then be able to return to class. |

What is the cost of student meals?Breakfast is served each morning beginning at 7:30 am. The cost for breakfast is $1.25. Students should arrive by 7:50 in order to be able to buy breakfast as they will be counted tardy after 8:05. Lunch is also served each day. Each grade level will have a specific lunch time. Vegetarian choices are always available. The cost for lunch is $2.25. Free or reduced meal prices are available. For an application please see the school office. To view the breakfast and lunch menu online, click here. Copies of this menu will be sent home at the beginning of the school year. |

Students who buy their lunch only on occasion may bring their lunch money 1 day at a time as needed. However, all students have cafeteria accounts. It is recommended and preferred that parents may send cash or checks in lump sums to be placed in the student account. As students go through the line to purchase a breakfast or lunch, they will enter their personal code into the computer keypad and the correct amount of money will be deducted from their account. This is much easier than having children try to keep up with money on a daily basis as money can easily be lost. The cafeteria manager asks that checks for deposit in your child's cafeteria account be sent to school on Monday's only. |

How do I register my child for school? There are numerous documents that the office staff needs in order to be able to register your child for school. In addition to proofs of address, documentation must be provided on immunizations and information on previous schools and home language surveys must be collected. In order to make sure that you have all the documentation that you need, please contact the Admissions Secretary, Pam Haile, at 972-968-1900. Here is some very important information from the school nurse. If you have questions about any of this information, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. |

What are the school hours? The school day begins at 8:05 am and ends at 3:10 pm. The doors are opened at 7:30 am for breakfast. Students arriving between 7:30 and 7:55 should report directly to the school cafeteria. The first bell rings at 7:55 for students to go to classrooms. Staff members will be available for student supervision until the first bell rings. No student supervision is provided prior to 7:30. Likewise, students are supervised by staff members after school until 3:30 at which time any remaining students will be sent to wait inside the school office. Parents will need to come to the school office and sign out a student who is waiting in the office after 3:30. |

Teachers usually welcome visitors. Even more, they welcome help! There may be times that are better then others to have a classroom visitor. Because of this, please try to arrange your visit with your child's teacher so that your visit doesn't interfere with any special plans in the classroom. Please be aware that not all children respond well to having their parent visit the classroom. Sometimes visitors can be more of a distraction than a help. But, many children find it a very nice treat to have a visitor for a special occasion. If you are visiting the school, you must first go to the school office to sign in. All visitors must wear a visitor tag so that students and teachers know that you are a welcomed visitor to the school. It is also a good idea to return to the office to sign out when you are done with your visit. |
|||||||||||||
|
Unfortunately, the lunchroom schedule and size of our cafeteria makes it difficult to accommodate visitors. We have special days in December that parents are invited to eat lunch at school. The number of students in the cafeteria in the morning makes it impossible for parents to eat breakfast at school. |

How do I sign up to be a volunteer? Each classroom teacher will have different needs for volunteers. You don't have to wait for your child's teacher to ask for volunteers, jump on in there and ask how you can help out. You will also have numerous opportunities to volunteer by helping the PTA with special school events. Feel free to ask in the office about other ways to volunteer at school. All volunteers for field trips, classroom help, PTA functions, etc must complete a criminal background check with the school district. This is required each year so even if you have completed one before, it must be resubmitted again for the current school year. To complete the background check, go to the CFB Website, select "Parents" then select "Volunteers". From this page, you will be able to click the link for the criminal history check. There is contact information on that page as well if you have any questions. Remember, if you want to help, we have a job for you! And, thank you in advance for volunteering! |

If your family is moving and you need to withdraw your child from school, please contact the office as soon as you become aware of the moving date. The office will prepare your child's records for you and send them to the appropriate school. Be sure you also let your child's teacher know of the move date. That way, your child's personal items and left over school supplies can be sent along to take to the new school. |
