going to state!
2009-2010

I am happy to report that senior JaRod Hall has just been selected as the 1st Chair Bass Trombone in the Texas Music Educator’s Association All-State Jazz Ensemble!  JaRod was selected based on a recorded performance that was judged this past weekend in Houston.

This marks JaRod’s FOURTH SELECTION to an All-State group, having been selected every year of his eligibility.  To make this accomplishment even more impressive, his selection to the All-State Jazz group is on an instrument he has learned as a second instrument (he was selected for three years on Tuba).

Please congratulate this fine young man on his incredible accomplishment-fewer than one percent of all students who audition for an All-State group are ever selected-to make it four years in a row is truly incredible and a testament to his talent and dedication.

Congratulations to NSHS Band trumpeter Scott Schmidt who was named to the Texas All-State Jazz Ensemble yesterday by the Texas Jazz Educators Association.  Scott completed an extensive audition process in October and was judged against 93 other trumpet players from across the state with only the top 5 being selected for this prestigious group.  This is the 3rd year in a row that NSHS has had a student selected to this 20 member group of the best high school jazz musicians in Texas.  Scott will get to perform with the All-State Jazz Ensemble at the Texas Music Educators Convention this February in San Antonio.  Congratulations to Scott Schmidt on this outstanding accomplishment for him and the NSHS Band Program!

The NSHS Wind Symphony placed 7th in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band auditions held at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in San Antonio on July 26th. This was the third and final level of auditions for Texas 4A Honor Band after NSHS advanced from the region and area levels. The Wind Symphony was ranked 7th of the 14 bands that advanced to State and will be recognized as a Finalist as one of the 7 top bands in class 4A! Congratulations to the members of the Wind Symphony for this incredible accomplishment and recognition for the NSHS Band Program!

Perry Band Takes Historic Step for CFB

The Perry Honor Band, the top performing band from DeWitt Perry Middle School, made history this summer when it became the first CFB band to reach the Finals level in the State Honor Band Competition for the 2nd year in a row!.  To accomplish this feat the band entered a recording of three contest tunes in the Region competition.  Regardless of how many schools enter, only two advance to the Area level.  Recordings are judged by five accomplished judges and are anonymous, identified only by a randomly assigned letter.  Perry placed first and advanced!  The Area level consists of the top two bands from each of four regions, and the process is repeated, again only the top two advance to the next level.  Perry placed second thus securing a position at the coveted State level, the first time any CFB band advanced so far!  Last week, at the Texas Bandmasters convention in San Antonio, the final level of judging occurred.  Of over 310 eligible CCC middle school bands only 14 outstanding bands remained, two representatives from each of the seven Areas in the state.   Perry’s recording placed as high as 12th and as low as 14th by individual judges, ultimately placing 14th over-all!

The Perry Bands are proudly directed by Paul Schmidt and Richard Sullivan who cannot be more delighted and humbled by the achievement of these 59, 7th and 8th grade students.
