Jim
McDaniel
is married to Susan McDaniel, music teacher at Stark Elementary
and Elementary Music Specialist for C-FB, and has a daughter,
Heather a teacher for Carrollton-Farmers Branch. Jim
began his tenure with Carrollton-Farmers Branch the spring before the 1996-1997
school year. As Executive Director of Fine Arts for the district,
his many duties include supervising, budgeting, and hiring for all areas
of Fine Arts including: art, band, choir, theater, dance, drill team,
elementary music, and elementary art on all campuses.
Jim is a graduate of Texas Christian
University, where he graduated with a B.M.Ed. in 1976, and a M.M.Ed
in 1978. He received his Supervision Certification, All Level Music,
TTAS Certification, SRI Certification, Instructional Leadership Training,
and University Principal Certification from Texas A&M University.
Professional Organizations include:
Texas Music Administrators Association, Texas Music Educators Association,
National Art Education Association, Texas Educational Theater Association,
Phi Beta Mu - National Honorary Band Fraternity, Texas Band Masters Association,
Texas Music Adjudicators Association. Jim is active as an adjudicator
and clinician for marching band, symphonic band, and jazz band, at the
university and UIL level.
Jim began his career in education
in 1976 as the Assistant Director of Bands for Skyline High School in Dallas
then on to Assistant Director of Bands for Bowie High School, Arlington,
TX in 1980. After being appointed as Director of Bands for Arlington's
Martin High School in 1982, Martin was selected to Texas State Marching
Contest in Austin for 3 years, (1988-1990). Awards during that
time also included 7 years of U.I.L. Sweepstakes Awards, Symphonic Bands
winning numerous Symphonic Festivals in Texas, Florida, and Colorado.
The Jazz Bands winning numerous Jazz Festivals in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida,
and Colorado. In 1983 the Jazz Band performed at the Montreux Jazz
Festival in Switzerland.
From August 1990 to May 1993
Jim served as the Assistant Director of Bands for Texas A&M University.
In May of 1993 he joined Bryan ISD as the Supervisor of Fine Arts and continued
there until securing the position of Director of Fine Arts with Carrollton-Farmers
Branch ISD. In 2002 his position changed to Executive
Director of Fine Arts.
Personal awards include the
"Outstanding Alumni" award from the Texas Christian University Jazz Bands
(1988-1989) and being inducted into the Ex Bandsman's Association Band of Fame
in 1996. He was elected "Teacher of the Year" at Martin High School in Arlington, Tx (1987-1988). Jim also served on the Executive Committee for UIL
Region 20 for four years, and the Advisory Board in Region 10 for Fine Arts.
Current professional contributions
include serving as Chairman for the Metroplex Music Administrators since 2000, and in
February, 2001 Jim was appointed Executive Secretary for the newly formed UIL Region 24 and still serves in that capacity.
For 2008-2009, Mr. McDaniel was named President for the Texas Music Administrator Conference,
serves on the Board of Directors of Phi Beta Mu (honor band fraternity), and is
the conductor of the Carrollton Wind Symphony as
well as on the Board of Directors for the newly formed
Carrollton-Farmers Branch Children's Theatre.
