Melody: We are reviewing the differences between our singing voice, whisper voice, shouting voice and talking voice. We are also reviewing the pitches So and Mi and will soon learn to read and write So and Mi on a 2 line staff. The next pitch to be introduced will be La which is higher than So and Mi.
Rhythm: First graders are reviewing the steady beat which is the foundation for all music. We are playing the steady beat on our bodies, pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. We will soon learn that the steady beat is a quarter note, which represents 1 beat of sound. We will also learn that a quarter rest represents one beat of silence.
Harmony: 1st grade student will accompany themselves with a steady beat bordun on Orff Instruments (xylophones) as well as speech ostinato (repeated speech patterns).
