My name is Billy Ferguson and I am very honored to be a part of the McKamy Elementary Family. This is my 5th year at McKamy and my 20th year in Music Education.
I began my music career in Highlands, Texas at Highlands Elementary under the direction of music teacher Yvonne Doskicill. My first experience on the musical stage was playing Abraham Lincoln in our 4th grade musical.
In Middle School I joined the band, played the Alto Saxophone and was hooked on music. I attended East Texas Baptist University and received my Bachelor of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
My Teaching experience includes 3 years as an Assistant Band Director at Cleveland High School and Dayton High School, both located just north of Houston. I spent my next 11 years in the Dallas Independent School District at Charles A. Gill Elementary in East Dallas. I came to McKamy Elementary in August of 2001. Thank you Joan Burke for bringing me into the wonderful McKamy family.
My goal at McKamy is provide positive musical experiences to all students and to prepare them for middle school band, orchestra or choir. "The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children."
When not at school I enjoy reading, the beach and chocolate, preferably all three at the same time. I also love to travel, if I have not been there I want to go there. Oh, I can't forget "As The World Turns" and "The Guiding Light", they are the only distractions that keep me from thinking about the next McKamy Production.
