Melody - 5th grade
students will learn to read, write and perform the following pitches using
solfege -

f-a-c-e. This will be our main focus as we begin to play recorders again in
January.
Rhythm - We will begin the year reviewing whole note, half note, quarter note, eight note, sixteenth note and syncopated rhythms. We will learn dotted rhythms, eighth note and sixteenth note combinations and triplet rhythm patterns this year. Students will read, write and perform the rhythm patterns on pitched and unpitched percussion as well as recorder.
Harmony - 5th grade students will accompany themselves using several bordon patterns on Orff instruments. The bordun patterns we will use are simple, alternating, level and crossover borduns. A bourdon is a repeated pattern using the 1st and 5th notes of the scale. Students will also accompany themselves with speech and instrumental ostinati (repeated patterns) on unpitched percussion instruments. We will also sing and play in 2, 3 and 4 part canons (round).
Recorders - We will begin recorder in January. If you would like to have a recorder for practice at home, you may purchase one for $5.00. It is not required to purchase a recorder. We are reviewing the notes BAG and will resume Recorder Karate soon.
