Melody - Third grade students are reviewing the pitches La So Mi Re Do by reading, writing and playing them on Orff instruments. We will soon add High Do to our repertoire of pitches. By the end of the year our goal is to have all students able to match pitch with their singing voices.
Rhythm - 3rd graders are reviewing quarter notes, half notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. We will introduce whole notes, sixteenth notes, half rest and whole rests during the current school year. Our goal is to be able to read, write, sing and play the above notes and rest in different rhythmic combinations.
Harmony - We will sing and play in 2 part canon (round) during the 3rd grade as well as singing partner songs ( 2 different songs simultaneously). We will accompany ourselves on Orff instruments using hands together bourdun, alternating bourdun and will learn crossover bordun this year. We will also accompany ourselves with vocal and instrumental ostinato (repeating patterns).
