Mr. Downum's Biography

David Downum hails from Lubbock, TX. As an honor graduate from Monterey High School and member of the Texas All-State Choir, Mr. Downum received a music scholarship to Texas Tech University. While at Texas Tech, he studied voice and performed with various ensembles including the Texas Tech University Choir, the university's premiere ensemble. Mr. Downum graduated from Texas Tech in 1985 with a Bachelor of Music Education. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a professional musician. David returned to West Texas in 1996 in order to inaugurate the choral music program at Muleshoe High School. In July of 2000, David moved to Dallas to teach choir at D.F. Long Middle School in Carrollton, and was asked to join the Newman Smith High School choral program in the fall of 2004, becoming the Assistant Choir Director/AP Music Theory Instructor.
