TRANSPORTATION: It is essential that you provide your child's teacher with accurate information on the provisions you have made for your child's transportation to and from school. You MUST send the teacher a written note of any changes in these provisions. This also includes After the Bell attendance changes. Please notify Daycare centers in relation to early dismissals, school holidays, special events, etc. If a child is going home with a friend or neighbor we must have prior written notice.

CLOTHING: Please see the student handbook for the District’s dress guidelines. Your child may be involved in activities that are messy and dirty; thus, it is important that he/she wear clothes that cannot be damaged. All children need to wear soled footwear...sorry, this means no flip flops! We also ask that you be cognizant of the weather when dressing your child. Be sure that he/she is dressed appropriately for cold or hot temperatures as outdoor play and physical activities are an important part of our kindergarten program. Please label all articles of clothing that might come off your child (jackets, sweaters)!
Also, Please pack a separate change of clothes in your child's backpack.
In the incident of an accident your child will have fresh clothing to
change into. |

NEWSLETTER:
We will be sending home a newsletter full of information about
Kindergarten activities. This will give you information of upcoming
activities. The newsletter along with PTA and student information will go
home each week in a special "Thursday folder". |
||||||||||||
REPORT CARDS: We are on
a 9 week grading period. Both formal and informal conferences will be
held during the school year. Our grading system is as follows:
Progress reports will be sent home during mid-grading
periods. Progress reports need to be signed and returned within 2 days of
being sent home. The first progress report will come home Thursday,
October 2nd. |

|
VOLUNTEERS: We will have
several special days in Kindergarten that will require "extra hands". We
will send home notes well in advance of those days.
In accordance with District
policy, all volunteers must attend volunteer orientation annually prior to
being eligible to serve as a volunteer.
The last chance to complete volunteer orientation is October 1st @
7:50am. Criminal background checks will
be done on all volunteers. Please watch for notification of scheduled
orientations. Also, for those of you with pre-school age children, we ask
that they not accompany you while volunteering.
In addition, check our class'
newsletter often for special volunteer updates. |

HOMEWORK: In the
beginning, the planner will be the only homework. This is a good
responsibility lesson in that what goes home must come back! Within the
first few weeks of school we will be sending ABC cards home with a list of
suggested activities. Throughout the year, as homework changes, we will
communicate the expectations and the due dates in the newsletter! Always
be aware of what is in the newsletter!! |

BIRTHDAY:
Your child may bring individually wrapped treats to be handed out
at the end of the day OR bring items to pass out such as pencils or
other small toys. Another GREAT way to honor your child's birthday
is the
Celebration Book
Club.
In order not to hurt
feelings, please mail birthday invitations unless inviting the whole
class. |

DISCIPLINE: Our behavior plan in class is completed with a "Clip Chart," there are four levels on the chart (Green- Happy Face, Blue- Straight Face, Yellow- Squiggly Face, and Red- Sad Face) They will start every day on green. If they stay on green they will receive a green happy face in their planner. If an inappropriate behavior is not fixed they will be asked to pull their clip. If your child moves to blue they will still get a blue straight face in their planner. If another warning has to be given, your child will be asked to pull their clip again. If your child moves to yellow they will get a yellow squiggly face in their planner. They will also receive a consequence within the school for moving their clip to yellow i.e.. losing recess time, eating lunch or working at a table away from friends, losing centers time, etc. On the off chance that your child still chooses to make wrong choices they will be asked to pull their clip for the final time. If your child moves to red they will receive a consequence from above and a note in the planner describing the problem, and a possible visit to Ms. Oxner (Counselor) or Mrs. Ferris (Principal). FYI...any teacher in the school can sign your child's planner at any time (regardless of color) if they witness a behavior that is clearly inappropriate. All of the children understand that if your planner is signed by another teacher you must still pull your clip in class. Please discuss any notes in the planner with your child and help them find a better choice next time. ***Each Friday the students who have stayed on green all week will get to choose from our classroom Treasure Chest!*** |

DROP
OFF/PICK-UP: When dropping your child off in the morning for
school please wait and watch to see that your child has entered the
building. Children will wait in the gym from 7:50-8:20 as they participate
in SHINE Time.
Children that arrive after 8:10 will be counted tardy. Please inform
Daycare buses of this policy. In the afternoon, pick-up will be at the Willowgate or Rain Tree entrances of the school. Please pull up along the
curb closest to the building and wait in your car. We will not
release a student without making contact (verbal or visual) with the
person designated to pick him/her up. For safety reasons children need
to use the crosswalks in order to get to the other side of the street,
children will not be allowed to cross the parking lot even if they are
with a parent. All children going to Daycare will be picked up on the
playground side of the building. Students attending After the Bell will
be walked to the gym as our class dismisses. |

MEALS: We encourage you
to pre-purchase lunches for your child if they will be buying
their lunch on a regular basis. You can pre-purchase by the week or
month. Breakfast is $1.00 and lunch is $2.00 for children. Each student will receive a
lunch number that is used as he/she purchases items from the cafeteria.
We will be working hard to memorize our numbers at school, but additional
practice at home will help greatly. Your child will receive his/her
number the first day of school.
Breakfast is served daily between 7:30 am and 7:50 am. While we are
practicing our lunch routine, we ask that you delay eating lunch with
your student until the second nine weeks of school (The official date is
October 14th). We will dazzle you with our
cafeteria skills then! |

BACKPACKS:
Your child will need a backpack large enough to hold their work and
folders. Children will bring their backpack to school everyday. If you
feel that your child may need a "back-up" set of clothes for unexpected
bathroom accidents, please pack a set to be kept in your child’s backpack.

SCHOOL
SUPPLIES: We share everything in Kindergarten. You do not need to
label supplies! We encourage you to purchase school supplies through the
school. This is a cost effective way of getting exactly what you
need! |
||||||||||||
|
REST TIME: We do not
have naptime in Kindergarten. Therefore, rest mats will not be needed.
They will be tired at first (as will their teacher!), so please make sure
your child is getting adequate sleep each night! |

|
MEDICINE: All medicine
must be in the original bottle with a label. Medicine must be kept in the
clinic. |
||||||||||||
|
ILLNESS/ABSENCE: Children must be fever free (without medication)
for 24 hours before returning to school. Please call the office (972
968-1400) to let them know when your child is at home ill. A note is
required upon the child’s return to school. |

BOOK ORDERS: We will be
sending home book club orders frequently. We encourage you to order books
for your child. This is a wonderful way to share books with your child and
also establish a home library. This great opportunity not only lets you
buy wonderful books at a reasonable price, but it also earns points to
increase our classroom library.
"A house without books is like a room without windows. No man has a right to bring up his children without Surrounding them with books if he has the means to Buy them. The love of knowledge comes with Reading and grows upon it."

TALKING ABOUT SCHOOL:
When asking a general question such as, "What did you do today?" or "How
was your day?" a child will usually answer, "Oh, nothing," or "We just
played." Many times a more specific question will encourage your child to
elaborate about the details of his day. A specific question might be:
"What workstation did you work in today?" Some other good "lead- in"
questions are: "Who did you work with today?", "What was your favorite
thing about today", "What did you write about in Writer's Workshop
today?", "What stories did you hear today?" It is especially important to
remember that children, like adults, have days when they are not
talkative. On these days do not press for answers, just wait and try
again tomorrow! |

FINAL NOTE: We will believe half of what comes to school if you believe half of what comes home!!
