Dear Students, Parents and Community Members,

Safety is our number one goal at Davis.  All doors are to remain closed and locked around the building at all times.  Students are instructed not to open the door for anyone.  Please do not enter the building except from the office doors after you have signed in with the secretaries.  This means at dismissal as well.  I am not attempting to keep you out, but I am attempting to keep intruders out who have no business in our school.  We received an alert, very recently, of two women who were entering schools at side doors, posing as parents, with the intent to steal.  In these days of unknown and known dangers, we cannot be too careful.  We must take all precautions to prevent problems.  Please do not be offended, and please work with me on this request.

Our district staff recently met with the American Red Cross, Carrollton and Farmers Branch Police, Fire, and Environmental Health Departments, along with the Denton and Dallas County Health Department, Bio-Terrorism Division.  They assured our district personnel that procedures are in place for disastrous events.  Our Safety/Crisis Plan at Davis has been updated, the staff trained, and procedures are in place.

There are a few more tips that you can do at home to help us prepare your children for emergencies:

  • Talk with your children about threats.

  • Ask your child if they know where the evacuation map is located in their classroom.

  • Teach your child to respect safety procedures and plans.

  • Teach your child to report suspicious behavior or rumors to an adult.

  • Identify a meeting place for the family.

It is impossible to anticipate every emergency that may occur, but the staff is familiar with the district emergency procedures as well as our campus plan.  If an emergency occurs, and you wish to check your child out of school, you must come to the office, sign a check-out form, and wait for a school designee to get your child from his/her classroom. This is for the safety of all children and staff members. The city and county safety divisions will direct and guide us at the time of the emergency, if we need to take actions that supersede our plan.

If we must evacuate the school, all the children and staff will go to Blalack Middle School.

Thank you for cooperating and helping us keep your children as safe as possible.

Sincerely,
Lisa Williams
