Results of the State Level OPS Competition
The State Level OPS competition was held Friday, July 22nd in San Antonio at the Texas Bandmasters Association State Convention.  It was a very exciting contest and everyone there was very pleased with the results.

Mr. Studer, Mr. Henning, Mrs. Crowder and I were present for the entire CC competition.  It is a very nervous procedure.  The Director in charge of the competition plays each of the ten marches and fifteen concert selections one at a time.  In order for the judging to be fair and impartial, each song is given a letter designation.  We were all very excited about the outcome of the competition.  Follow this
link and see the results from all of the groups that were competing this year.  When that page loads, look for the CC Bands and you will find all of the results in our classification.

Coast Guards March by K. L. King was ranked
FIRST in the State in the 'CC' March Music category at the State competition.  This is so exciting for our program.  The students worked very hard last year in preparation for UIL and the OPS competition.  Their hard work produced the first State winner for CFBISD among the Bands.

West Highlands Sojourn by Robert Sheldon was ranked third in the State in the 'CC' Concert Music category at the State competition.  The band performed the first two movements for UIL and added the third movement for the OPS competition.  The Band Staff was extremely pleased with the recording of the band.  This song was a grade 3 and it  was a difficult selection for our band program.

Prairie Schooner by Bruce Preuninger was ranked fifth in the State in the 'CC' Concert Music category at the State competition.  The Symphonic Band really enjoyed working on this selection.  It seems that everyone had something fun to play in this song.

These are excellent results for our second time to enter the OPS competition.  The 2003-04 BBMS Symphonic Band did a great job and had set a very high standard for our band program to meet and beat.  You can follow this link to see their results.  The 2004-05 Symphonic Band took on those challenges and worked very hard on the music.  I know that each year, the students will strive to do their best at all of our competitions.  If you would like to see a list of the members of this band, follow this link.

The members of the Symphonic Band should be proud of their accomplishment at the State level.  If you look at the complete list, you will notice that very few schools had all three of their selections make it to the State OPS competition.

All Bands reach the State OPS competition by winning at the Region level and then the Area level.  At each of these levels, the march that is selected as first and second place winners continues on to the next level of competition.  In the Concert competition at each level, the concert selections that are selected as first, second and third place winners move on to the next round of competitions.  Since there are five ATSSB Areas in the State of  Texas, you will have ten marches competing for First Place and fifteen concert selections competing for First and Second Place.

ATSSB places the First Place March and First and Second Place Concert selections on a CD and distribute it to the schools that are members of ATSSB.  This year, that CD will be sent to over 600 High Schools and their middle school feeders.  Our performance of Coast Guards will be on that CD.

Everyone at Barbara Bush Middle School and in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is proud of the accomplishment of the 2005 Symphonic Band.
