UIL Contest

The BBMS Symphonic Band performed at the Region 24 Middle School Band UIL festival on April 7, 2005.   

The Symphonic Band received an overall rating of Superior in Concert and an overall rating of Excellent in Sightreading.  The band played well and received good comments from the judges.   

The Band performed Coast Guards March by Fillmore, West Highlands Sojourn (movements 1 & 2) by Robert Sheldon and Prairie Schooner by Bruce Preuninger.

Peak Music Fest
The BBMS Symphonic Band performed at the Peak Music Fest in Murchison Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of North Texas.

The Band performed their UIL selections for a panel of judges.  All three judges gave the Symphonic Band a rating of Superior.  The Band had a great performance and received good comments from not only the judges, parents but other band directors as well.

The Band performed the following selections:
  Coast Guards March - King/Swearingen
  Prairie Schooner - B. Preuninger
  West Highlands Sojourn (Mvts. 1, 2 & 3) - R. Sheldon

The band had four members recognized as Outstanding Soloist.  Those students were:  Ashley Kim on Flute; Everson Marcondes on Alto Sax;  Felippe Marcondes on Trumpet and Matt Solis on Euphonium.

Many sections of the band were recognized by the judges as Outstanding Sections of the Day.  Those sections were:  the Flute section; the Oboe section;  the Clarinet Section;  the Bass Clarinet section;  the Saxophone section;  the Trumpet section;  the French Horn section;  the Trombone section and the Percussion section.

The recording from this contest will be entered into the Outstanding Performance Series competition sponsored by ATSSB.  Keep watching the homepage for further news about this summer's competition.

Sandy Lake Funfest
The Sixth Grade Band performed at the Sandy Lake Funfest on Saturday, April 30th.  The band had been working on two songs for this performance and had a great performance, despite the cold weather.

The Band performed Foxboro March by John O'Reilly and Columbia:  In Memoriam by Dave Henning.  Columbia:  In Memoriam received its' World Premier at Sandy Lake Funfest.  The students enjoyed working on this song and really enjoyed knowing a composer.  This work will be published in Fall.

The Band received a Superior rating from each of the three judges and had many great comments from parents in the audience.  The band has received a Superior Trophy each of the five years that they have attended this festival.

Taste of Ranchview Supper and Spring Concert
The BBMS Band program presented the Taste of Ranchview Supper and Concert on Tuesday, May 3rd at Ranchview High School.  This was the third annual Taste of Ranchview Concert/Supper and saw a tremendous growth in attendance.

The Sixth Grade Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Bands presented music that they had been working on during the past few months.  The crowds were very large and appreciative of the hard work of the both the students and the directors.

The Band performed Foxboro March by John O'Reilly and Columbia:  In Memoriam by Dave Henning.  Columbia:  In Memoriam received its' World Premier at Sandy Lake Funfest in April 2005.  The students enjoyed working on this song and really enjoyed knowing a composer.  This work will be published in Fall.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Henning, performed:  Laredo March by J. Higgins;  Stratosphere by D. Beckham, Sr and Creed by W. Himes.  The Concert Band has shown great improvement during the year and did a great job on Creed, a Grade 2 piece.

The Band performed the following selections:  Coast Guards March by King arr. by Swearingen;  Prairie Schooner by B. Preuninger and West Highlands Sojourn (Mvts. 1, 2 & 3) by R. Sheldon.  The Symphonic Band received Superior ratings at both UIL and Peak Music Fest on these selections.

Ranchview High School had several groups that performed on the Concert.  The RHS Drumline and Color Guard performed for the parents and students as did the RHS Symphonic Band.  This group received a Superior rating at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest in April.  The RHS Band program is under the direction of Loy Studer and Jason Williams.
