BBMS Band members participated in the Association of Texas Small School Bands Middle School All-Region Band auditions for the first time. We had nineteen band members compete in the auditions held on Tuesday, November 19th at Argyle High School. Over six hundred middle school students from schools in Region 20 and 24 met to compete for placement in the ATSSB MS All-Region Band. Since it is hard to get a school bus early, the band took a charter bus to Argyle High School. We took great pride in the fact that the other students arrived in 'Yellow Dogs' (school buses) or by car. We loaded the bus at 2:30 to leave for Argyle. Auditions started around 4:45. Some rooms finished early while other rooms went on and on and on. Mr. Crowder was lucky and got to hear the 74 clarinet players audition while Mr. Studer heard the low brass room. We arrived back at school at 11:05 p.m., all exhausted and glad to be home. We were all tired the next day but excited about the results. Everyone had a good time waiting for their audition to begin. Some students had to wait several hours before they got to audition while Macy Nguyen was lucky enough to be the first of 70 Flutes to audition. After all rooms were finished we waited patiently for the results. The following students participated in the auditions.

The BBMS Bands presented their Winter Concert on Thursday, December 12th at Ranchview High School. The Sixth Grade Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Bands presented music for parents, friends and administrators. If you didn't purchase a CD of our performance, contact the Band Staff about getting your CD now. The Sixth Grade Band started the program off in their debut performance. The Band performed Jingle Bells by John Pierpont arranged by Mike Story and First Christmas March arranged by John O'Reilly. The Band played well and were well received by the audience. The Concert Band was next and had great fun with their three selections. The Concert Band performed A Christmas Sleigh Ride by Sandy Feldstein & John O'Reilly, Santa Comes Marching In arranged by John O'Reilly and Barbara Ann arranged by Brian Pitts. The Symphonic Band wrapped up our portion of the program with their three selections. The Symphonic Band performed Celebration for Winds by John Edmondson, Sea Song Trilogy arranged by Anne McGinty and ended their program with North Pole Sleigh Ride arranged by Mark Williams. All three groups remained to listen to the Ranchview High School Band. When the program was completed, refreshments were served and everyone had a great time visiting with family and friends.

The Sixth Grade Band and Seventh Grade Symphonic Band competed at the MetroFest Music Festival on Saturday, April 26th. This is the first time the Sixth Grade Band has competed at a festival other than the Sandy Lake Band Fest. The Sixth Grade Band performed Foxwood Overture by Anne McGinty and The Flintstones Meets the Jetsons arranged by Gerald Sebesky. The Band was well received by both the audience and the judges. This was their first festival and they enjoyed the sweet success of receiving all Superiors from the three judges. The Seventh Grade Band performed after the Sixth Grade Band and had a good performance. They performed the music that they had prepared for our Mid-Winter Concert. They performed Valley Forge March by John Edmondson, Wildwind Overture by John Kinyon and Sea Song Trilogy by Anne McGinty. The band got a great reception from the audience and received all Superiors from the three judges. After all groups had their pictures taken and had received their ratings and sheets, we went to The Main Event and had a great time bowling, playing Laser Tag and playing the other arcade games. This was a great ending to a successful day.

This year, our Band Program was fortunate to have several enrichment teachers working with our students. Those teachers were: Joe Gryzbowski, Jr. - Brass
Our students received great instruction from these teachers and their progress was amazing. We greatly appreciate the dedication of these fine teachers to our Band Program. We hope to increase the size of our Enrichment Program next year and be able to offer more private lesson time slots to our students. A special thanks to the parents that help
support this important program
