The C-FBISD holds an audition for middle school band members during the Fall of each school year. We use the All-Region audition music as our audition music. Those members selected through the audition present a concert the following month. The BBMS Band had several students audition for the CFB All-District Band. We had one student selected to the All-District Band this year, Kevin Choi. Kevin was in the 8th grade and plays the clarinet. He participated in the All-District Band Concert and had great fun. We are extremely proud of his accomplishments while at BBMS. |

For the first time in it's history, the BBMS Band had an in-school Solo and Ensemble Festival. In the past, the Band has participated at Solo & Ensemble Festival hosted by other middle school bands. While all BBMS Band Members were eligible to participate in the festival, the Sixth Grade Members were only allowed to perform in ensembles. The Seventh and Eighth Grade Members were allowed to perform solos and in ensembles. Paul Schmidt, the Band Director at Perry MS, was the adjudicator for our first ever BBMS Solo & Ensemble Festival. To see a list
of students that participated in the festival and their ratings, follow

The BBMS Symphonic Band performed at the Region 24 Middle School Band UIL festival on April 5, 2002. This is the first year for the new region, Region 24. The Symphonic Band received an overall rating of Excellent in Concert and an overall rating of Good in Sightreading. The band played well despite the loss of one of their band members, Caleb Lawrence. Caleb was an 8th grade member and played Tenor Sax in the Band. He passed away two days prior to the festival. The Band Members wanted to participate in the UIL Festival and dedicate their remaining performances to Caleb's memory. The Band performed
The Orange Bowl March by Fillmore/Balent, Two British Folk Songs by Del
Borgo and Creed by Himes. This is was the most difficult program
the band had performed at any UIL contest. |

Members of the Sixth Grade Band performed at the Sandy Lake Band FunFest in April. They received a rating of Superior from each of the three judges. The Band received great comments from our parents that attended the festival as well as the parents and directors from other bands.. They performed Twist and Shout arr. by Sebesky and Shake, Rattle and Roll arr. by Sebesky. The students had a great time at the park and are looking forward to their trip to Six Flags. |

The Symphonic Band dedicated their performance to the memory of Caleb Lawrence. The Band performed their UIL selections: Orange Bowl March - Fillmore/Balent; Two British Folk Songs - del Borgo; and Creed - Himes. The Band received straight Superior Ratings from each of the three judges. In addition to their ratings, two members were selected as Outstanding Soloist of the Day. Rachel Drennan, oboe, and Kevin Duke, trumpet, were both awarded certificates for their outstanding performance. Also, the Symphonic
Band had three sections recognized for their outstanding job during our
performance. The Clarinet, Trumpet and Percussion sections each received
Outstanding Section Awards from the Festival Host. |

The BBMS Band Program performed their Winter Concert in conjunction with the December BBMS PTA meeting. The concert was well received by the parents and BBMS Staff in attendance. This was the first public performance for the Sixth Grade Band. The Members were a little nervous but did an excellent job at the performance. The Symphonic
Band closed the concert with several well received selections. Even
with several members were participating in the CFB Basketball Tournament,
the Band was well received by the audience and received a standing ovation
