Dear Parent or Guardian:
The district is beginning to have confirmed cases of flu reported to our nurses. Regardless of the type of flu, confirmed or suspected, we have been told by the County Health Departments to respond as though all cases are H1N1 by taking appropriate precautions.
The district believes that hand washing is very important for children, parents and school staff. We have found a waterless hand sanitizer that is listed as killing 99% of viruses without the use of alcohol. We have ordered it for the district and will have it in the schools as soon as we receive it.
We need your help with checking your children’s temperature before sending them to school. Thermometers are inexpensive and usually cost about $5 at the local grocery store or pharmacy. Temperatures of 100, accompanied with a cough or a sore throat, could be the flu. We encourage you to take your child to the doctor if he/she has these symptoms. Early treatment is very important.
Please keep your child home until they are really well – at
least 24 hours after being free of the fever. Returning to school too soon can
cause a more severe relapse and prolong the illness.
The district will continue to send daily reports to the County Health Departments on the number of flu cases, confirmed and suspected, in our district. Always call the school when your child is ill. It helps us so much in helping your child and other students in the school. .
Please let me know if there is anything the school nurses or I can do for you and your child.
Sincerely,
Terri Lyons, RN
Nurse Manager
