Frequently Shared Problems
Hover Buttons (on the left side of your web page)
are not working properly
1. Hover Buttons
Several students have
commented that they cannot access the Assignment page on their teacher's web
site. Here are possible culprits:
-
Student’s computer does not
have the latest version of the browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) for their
operating system. If that is the case, the student must update their
version. For example, for Internet Explorer, the student must go to
microsoft.com/windows/ie, choose the version of
Internet Explorer they want and click
on the appropriate download.
-
Student’s computer does not
have the latest update of their operating system. If this is the case, the
student must download the latest service pack. For example, for Windows
operating system, the student must go to
windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download the appropriate service
pack for their version of the operating system.
-
To access hover buttons, the
computer must be running the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
which can be found at
http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
- Instructions to install can be found at
http://java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp.
-
Sometimes, the student
thinks the page has not opened, but it is really there. They just need to
click on it on the task bar (bottom of the screen).
-
Sometimes, Internet Explorer
breaks while you are working on the net. In that case, you need to close
Internet completely and open it again so it can load the necessary Java
applets.
-
Some firewalls may not treat
Hover Buttons as unwanted pop-ups. In that case, the student must change the
firewall setting (hard to give instruction since there are so many firewalls
on the market).
