Level IV Pre-AP / AP Syllabus
This is a Pre-AP / AP class which is very demanding and taught with high expectations. It will be challenging for most students. In order to be successful the student will need to be motivated and self-disciplined. In addition, it is the student’s responsibility to come to tutorials if he/she is having difficulty mastering the material being taught. Ninety percent of class will be conducted in Spanish.
Grading: Grades will be
posted every three, six and nine weeks.
Grade Computation
Test / Projects = 60%
Daily Tasks = 40%
First Semester Grade:
The average of the 2 - 9 week grades = 80%
The Fall semester exam = 20%
Second Semester Grade:
The average of the 2nd semester 2-9 week grades = 80%
The Spring semester exam = 20%
End-of-the-year Grade:
Average of both semesters combined.
1. Respect others and their property.

There may be random notebook checks throughout the year. Each notebook check will count as two (2) daily work grades. To earn your notebook grades your notebook must:
Be complete, with all papers in the
rings of the notebook.
There are no papers from other classes
It will be organized as per instructions
It is essential that you keep a well organized notebook. The final exam in the spring covers all material covered throughout the entire school year. Do not throw your notebook away after the first semester (or at the end of the year, for those of you continuing on to an upper division Spanish class.)
Work Responsibility
All tasks will be due on the day they are assigned. You will have until 3:15 on the day the task is assigned to complete it. After that time it will become a zero.
All oral tasks will be done in written form before reciting them orally. You must show written form before reciting task.
If you fail to turn in worksheets and/or homework immediately upon my request you will earn a zero. If you do not turn in your work promptly after you have made corrections, it will result in a zero!!
If you "borrow" someone else's work you will receive a zero for the assigned task(s).
If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed. If worksheets were handed out or returned they will be in your class tray. Work left in class trays for a week will be thrown out. Always check your class tray.
Students that are absent on test day will be allowed to make-up the test missed. You have one day for each day you were absent to make-up the test, if you miss your deadline it will become a zero. i.e. If you are absent two days you have two days to make-up the test. After the second day you will receive a zero. No exceptions!!!!
All make up work will be done after school.
Late work will not be accepted without a penalty, unless you were absent, then you will have one day for each day you were absent to make up or turn in work. However, if the assignment is given and/or assigned while you are present it is due immediately upon your return to campus.
If you know that you are going to be out, for what ever reason, when a project/presentation/test is due you are to turn in the project, present your presentation and/or take the test the class period before the original/assigned due date!!!
There will be NO RETEST on tests. Retesting is required by the state to show mastery of essential elements. In Spanish we show and document mastery through our check system. We do not use test to document mastery. Tests are documented to show summative progress and to bring concepts together. Students are given a syllabus and test rubrics for each unit, thus know what the tests consist of, if the student chooses not to study for the test that does not warrant retesting.
Under no circumstances are students permitted to use computer / on-line translators to translate their work. Using any means of translators will result in a zero!!

EXPECTATIONS
• I dismiss you at the end of class NOT
the bell. If you would like me to dismiss you when the bell rings you must
be seated in your desk and the room must be in order.
i.e. desks in order and pick up any and all trash
around your desk and put in trash.
• No talking during announcements.
• Each student will get one copy of handouts. No extra copies will be made. If you misplace your copy it is YOUR responsibility to borrow a classmates copy and make your own copy.
• Tardy policy:
+ sign your name in the tardy log
+ write the time and
date every single time.
• Questions/discussions about grades will not be discussed during class time. Talk to me AFTER school.
• If you have finished all of your
Spanish work due for the day you may work on another class/subject work.
-finishing your work ahead of time
does not mean talk time or walk around the room and visit with
classmate time.
• NO EATING, DRINKING AND/OR CHEWING GUM IN CLASS. (1 hour detention)
• Bathroom passes: You will be allowed to go to the bathroom 6 times a semester.
• Use Spanish phrases when possible. (¿Cómo se dice ____?/ ¿Puedo ir al baño? etc.)
• The day before a test I will give you class time to study for the test, if you choose not to study that is your choice. Keep in mind that I do not answer questions on test days.
• There are dictionaries available for you to use. Taking the dictionaries out of the classroom without permission will suspend your privilege of using them.
