Introduction - Linking Geography and History

Creating America's Geography Handbook (before Chapter 1)

In this unit students will be re-introduced to the five themes of geography as they review geography skills needed for the understanding of American history. Students will also review social studies terminology and map skills. As a transition to the next unit, students will identify major eras in US history.

Critical Questions:

  • How can a historian use the five themes of geography?
  • How did geography affect settlement?
  • Why do historians organize history into eras?
