The First Texans
Celebrating Texas Chapter 4
This unit focuses on the Native American cultures in
Texas prior to European colonization. Students will
analyze the early history, culture and environmental
interactions of native peoples. Students will compare
and contrast the tribal characteristics such as
location, housing, clothing, tools, political, economic
and social development.
Critical Questions :
- How did the geography of Texas impact the cultural
and economic way of life of early Native American
tribes?
- How did early Native Americans in Texas adapt to
and modify the environment?
- How did early Native Americans of Texas compare to
