Grade 4 Social Studies - Unit VI Overview

Progress - Life in Modern Texas

This unit focuses on modern Texas. Students will investigate the increased industrialization and urbanization and the development of aerospace and technology industries in Texas. A study of where and how certain cities developed in Texas will be made, including how geographic factors affected this development, and how and why people have modified the environment where they live. Students will also learn about notable Texans of various groups.

Another major focus will be on the branches of state and local governments, leaders of state government, and how citizens participate within the democratic process.

  • How does one's environment impact one's life?
  • What is your role in a democratic society?
  • What qualities must a good leader have?
  • Which leaders have positively influenced the development of Texas?
