IPC - Unit VI Overview

Solutions

Within the Solutions Unit, IPC students are expected to relate the structure of water to its function as the universal solvent. Students are also expected to relate the concentration of ions in a solution to its properties and demonstrate how different factors influence solubility.

Critical Questions:
  • What are changes in matter that affect everyday life?
  • How is solution chemistry a part of everyday life

Suggested Time Frame: 1.5 Weeks

Student Performance Expectations

Key

Information in the brackets that is not in bold (8.2A) is the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill (TEKS) that this objective is aligned to.

Information in the brackets that is in bold (8.2.11B) (8.2.12A) (11.2US10A) is the specific Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS- test) objective this objective is aligned to.

Explain the concepts of solutions and solubility and relate the structure of water to its functions as the universal solvent (IPC 9A, D).
Demonstrate how various factors influence solubility and influence the rate of dissolving (IPC 9A, D, E).
Relate the concentration of ions in a solution to physical and chemical properties (IPC 9B, C).
