IPC - Unit III Overview

Atomic Structure

In the Atomic Structure unit, IPC students are expected to research and describe the development of the atomic theory. Students are also expected to identify parts of the atom and compare atoms based on their atomic structure.

Critical Questions:
  • What important scientific contributions were made to the development of the atomic theory?
  • What relationships exist between properties of matter and its components?

Suggested Time Frame: 3.5 weeks

Identify and describe the parts of the atom and Research and describe development of historical atomic theory (IPC 7B). 
Identify constituents of various materials such as metal salts, light sources, and fireworks (IPC 7E).
