Grade 8 Science - Unit IV Overview

Living Systems and Environment

In the fourth unit, Living Systems & Environment, the students will be able to describe interactions between human body systems.

Students will know that the homeostasis of an organism depends on all parts of the organism working together and is also dependent on the environment. Students will be able to identify how negative and positive feedback mechanisms aid in homeostasis.

Students will be able to describe how organisms interact within an ecosystem. Students will know that environmental changes in Earth's cycles can occur that will affect homeostasis through natural and human impact.

Critical Questions

  • How do human body systems interact to maintain homeostasis?
  • In what ways do living systems interact?
  • What affects do natural and human events have on the environment and species extinction?

Suggested Time Frame: 2 weeks
