Grade 7 Science - Unit X Overview

Succession

In the unit on Succession, students will identify the types of events that can establish a new ecosystem and predict the series of changes that occur in that ecosystem over time. Students will examine the possible disturbances that can result in secondary succession and discover the significance of succession in reaching and maintaining a condition of stability.

  • How do primary and secondary succession differ?
  • How does succession help an ecosystem sustain equilibrium?
