Grade 1 Science - Unit VI Overview

New Plants
In the New
Plants Unit, students will explore the FOSS: New Plants
kit where they will learn about the needs of plants.
Students will sort plants according to their parts and
characteristics. Students will observe and describe the
parts of plants. Students will identify how plants allow
their basic needs to be met as well as how they depend
on each other for their basic needs. Students will
observe, measure and record changes in size, mass,
color, position, quantity, sound and movement.
Critical Questions:
- What are the different parts and characteristics
of a plant?
- How do plants meet their basic needs?
- How do plants change throughout their life cycle?
