Heavy or Light?
More or Less?
Throughout Unit X, students will continue to develop their sense
of number and operation by developing an understanding of the
relative position and magnitude of whole numbers and of ordinal
and cardinal numbers and their connections.
Students will also continue to develop their ability to measure
by recognizing the attributes of length, volume, weight, area
and time. Students will also compare and order objects according
tot he attributes of volume and weight and use repetition of a
single unit to measure something larger than the unit.
Students will begin to understand data analysis and probability
by sorting and classifying objects according to their attributes
and organize data about the objects.
Problem solving, language and communication, connections within
and outside mathematics, and formal and informal reasoning
underlie all content areas in mathematics. Throughout
mathematics in Pre-Kindergarten, students use these processes
together with mathematical tools such as manipulative materials
to develop conceptual understanding and solve problems as they
do mathematics. |
