In this unit, writing workshop is employed to write a researched
expository composition. Mini-lessons are conducted on the
elements of research such as identifying a topic, gathering
information, paraphrasing and summarizing information without
plagiarizing, documenting sources and creating an appropriate
form of presentation.
Continued emphasis is given to varied sentence structure
including the use of prepositional phrases.
Fact and opinion and cause and effect are taught through short
and long pieces of literature as well as through paired
passages.
