English III Language Arts - Unit VI Overview
The focus for this six weeks is two-fold: contemporary
literature and media literacy. The literature revolves around
the post-modern era through the reading of a play while the
media literacy deals with print advertising. Special emphasis is
given to the historical events of the time, namely integration
in a postwar society, and how they are reflected in the
literature.
Critical Questions:
- How do post-modern authors use literature as social
commentary?
- What literary terms are crucial to the understanding of
drama?
- How can creative writing be used to reinforce various
aspects of the literature?
- What elements of grammar and mechanics lend sophistication
and correctness to a piece of writing?
