English II Language Arts - Unit VI Overview
This six weeks study will emphasize the personal narrative,
open-ended questions, and short answer responses. Journal
writing will provide the foundation from which a personal memoir
(narrative) will be written. Literary and expository selections,
along with political cartoons will strengthen the students'
ability to think critically.
The suggested pieces of literature in this unit will center
around the theme of courage, survival, and perseverance.
Critical Questions:
- What elements of literature are used in literary and/or
expository selections to affect the meaning of the work?
- How can textual evidence be used to support the students'
assertions about the literature?
- How can personal experience be used to construct a
narrative that is interesting and meaningful?
- How is multicultural literature connected to the common
theme of courage of the individual when surviving difficult
circumstances?
