PURPOSES OF THE PROGRAMThere are some students in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District who participate in individual fitness activities that are not offered by the physical education or athletic departments. The Off Campus Physical Education Program offers students the opportunity to earn school credits for their commitment to these activities if the activity is approved by the Texas Education Agency and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM
The program is a cooperative arrangement between Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, the student, and an approved off-campus agency selected by the student. The student will receive one-half unit of physical education credit per semester while enrolled in an off-campus physical education program.
ACTIVITIES OFFERED
Activities available through the Off-Campus Program are Olympic-type activities approved by the Texas Education Agency that are not offered comprehensively through the physical education or athletic departments. Additional activities are allowed with the approval of the Director of Athletics.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The following is a list of basic requirements that may be considered a starting point when looking at the possibility of establishing an off-campus physical education program. It is suggested that these requirements be met and maintained to be eligible for participation in the program.
1. The purpose of the program is to accommodate students who are making serious efforts to develop Olympic-level capabilities and to allow them to be involved in an off-campus program that provides training exceeding that offered in the school district.
2. Off-campus physical activity programs will be approved for only those students who have been strongly recommended by qualified instructors as possessing "Olympic potential".
3. The instructor will be required to report a final grade at the conclusion of each nine week grading period.
4. The student must participate in his/her specific activity a minimum of 15 hours per week under the direct supervision of the instructor.
5. The student must participate a minimum if four days during the week (Monday-Friday) plus an additional day that may fall on either the weekend or during the week. All such participation must always be under the direct supervision of the instructor.
6. The student may not have more that five unexcused absences per semester (Excessive homework is not an excused absence from the required activity).
7. A fee of $100.00 per semester will be paid to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. The fee must accompany the application for approval of the Director of Athletics.
8. No off-campus program will be allowed if located more than a reasonable distance from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD administration building.
9. Only students in grades seven thru twelve will be eligible for consideration for the off-campus program. No students in elementary school will be considered for the off-campus program.
10. The instructor must constantly observe and evaluate the student's attitude, work habits, and progress. If at any time the student fails to maintain this high level of performance, the instructor will be expected to contact the program director and withdraw his recommendation. The student will no longer be considered eligible for the off-campus program.
TO ENROLL IN PROGRAM
The student must confer with the school counselor about plans. Guideline packets will be provided to the student and parent by the school counselor. The counselor can provide the application form which must be completed by the parent and selected agency instructor(s).
The application must be submitted prior to the second week of the semester for which they have applied, as well as the $100.00 fee to the Director of Athletics.
