What have we been doing this summer?

Monday June 16th

Mrs. McAnally: We did a “Rainbow Rap” where each child signed up another child to be a partner of a certain color. Then we introduced our partners to the group so we could get to know each other. After the introductions, we learned some ways to clap for our new friends.

Ms. Strickland: We made Science journals and decorated them with science words and pictures. We also started a science experiment using eggs, water, and vinegar. Look in the "How To" section for  instructions.

Tuesday June 17th

Mrs. McAnally: We read the book, “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” and then brainstormed what Mrs. McAnally would do if she met a SAGE student. The students then wrote their idea on a sentence strip and made a replica of their face on a paper plate. Look for these in the hall when you visit on Parents day (Tuesday July 8th).

Ms. Strickland: We finished our egg experiment added the information to our science journal. We worked on sorting and creating charts by noticing details about our shoes.

Wednesday June 18th

Mrs. McAnally: We read the book, “ If You Give a Pig a Pancake” and then brainstormed ideas for our own books. Individually, in partners or in groups we began making a plan for our books on a Flow Map.

Ms. Strickland: We experimented with the different ways to tie our science shirts before we dyed them and made a journal entry about the steps we took. Look in the "How To" section for  instructions.

Thursday June 19th

Mrs. McAnally: We finished our flow maps today and then began writing our final copy of our new stories. We had Spanish class with Mrs. Poorman!

Ms. Strickland: We finished out shirt experiment and showed off our results. We then started a new experiment studying the chemical change rust.

Friday June 20th

Mrs. McAnally: We started our day  by decorating our plates for us to put our cookies on.  We made Mouse Cookies and had a great FRIDAY!

Ms. Strickland: We finished our rust experiment and wrote about it in our journal. Then we made posters about the different types of scientists. Look for these in the hall when you visit on Parents day (Tuesday July 8th).

Throughout the week

Ms. Strickland: We have worked on Scientist Cards, Scientist bodies ( Look for these in the hall when you visit on Parents day (Tuesday July 8th).), bringing in supplies, the newsletter, decorating our journal, and helping each other.

Monday June 23th

Mrs. McAnally: We played a game called “Last man standing”  where we had to think of all the things that a person could buy. We read the book “Caps For Sale” We discussed the idiom monkey business and brainstormed a list of these.

Ms. Strickland: We made fizzy colors and figured out what primary colors make what secondary colors using the light and the colored water.

Tuesday June 24th

Mrs. McAnally: We read the story, “Circus Caps For Sale” and discussed products, producers and consumers.  We discussed inventions and then filled out our project proposal.  To fill it out, we had to choose a company name, name our product and tell what we would use to build it.

Ms. Strickland: We talked about how the first people were able to write on cave walls and how they might have figured out what to use. We then tried to make marks with many different natural things. We used everything from mashed peas to ashes and wrote down our results.

Wednesday June 25th

Mrs. McAnally: We began making our inventions using recyclable materials. Look for links to websites about recycling in our link area.

Ms. Strickland: We talked about recycling and then took old crayons melted them down and made new ones. Look in the "How To" section for  instructions.

Thursday June 26th

Mrs. McAnally: We worked on  our inventions and made frozen bananas. Look in the "How To" section for  instructions.

Ms. Strickland: We talked about colors and how they have a different levels because of how our eyes see light and then used our new crayons to create different levels.

Friday June 27th

Mrs. McAnally: We painted our inventions! We ate our frozen bananas. Yummy!

Ms. Strickland: We finished our color week and introduced our weather week by making rainbows and talking about how they are created in nature. Look for these in the hall when you visit on Parents day (Tuesday July 8th).

Monday June 30th

Mrs. McAnally: We wrote our commercials and practiced them with partners.

Ms. Strickland: We started our nature print, recording the weather, and our color spectrum (rainbow) image.

Tuesday July 1st

Mrs. McAnally: We taped our commercials as podcasts with Mr. Trout, the teacher in charge of technology at SAGE.

Ms. Strickland: We finished our color spectrum image.

Wednesday July 2nd

Mrs. McAnally: It was a lot of hard work, but we created giant advertising posters about our inventions.

Ms. Strickland: We researched weather and made posters to show what we found. We also acted out the water cycle.

Thursday July 3rd

Mrs. McAnally: We completed our advertising posters and and celebrated our inventions!

Ms. Strickland: We studied types of clouds and and made a cloud in a bottle.

Monday July 7th

Mrs. McAnally: We put the finishing touches on our inventions and our sales techniques.  We got ready for Open House!

Ms. Strickland: We finished up our scientist badges and shirts and reviewed the things we learned this summer.

Tuesday July 8th

Mrs. McAnally and Ms. Strickland: We had a super Open House day! And a did a cool experiment with mentos and coke.

Wednesday July 9th

Mrs. McAnally: - We read Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett and created our version of a perfect “food” weather day and a disaster “food” weather day.

Ms. Strickland: We made very messy goo and putty using diffrent house hold products.

Thursday July 10th

Mrs. McAnally: We made Tornado Trail mix to go along with our crazy food weather!

Ms. Strickland: We made a fake spill and collected all of our really cool work to take home.

Friday July 11th

Mrs. McAnally and Ms. Strickland: We made miniature scientists out of edible dough. We also played lots of games and enjoyed each other on our last day!!!
