#3 Corrugated Paper Composition –Value Drawing – Cross Hatching
Objective:
To show the entire value gradation range using sharpies (thick and thin).

Procedure: |
|
Build an interesting sculptural composition. Fold, cut or tear the paper. Can be non- representational but must show overlapping, size variations; can be somewhat representational: parts of face, body, objects…..Make it Interesting…do some planning. |

Glue all shapes into a permanent still life arrangement. |
|
Use Viewfinder to find a “Catch the Viewer’s Eye” composition….What is different, unexpected, etc. |
|
Preliminary Drawing – Draw the largest shapes first: all four sides of the sculpture must reach/go beyond the picture plane. |
|
Draw medium shapes next, smallest last. |
|
Include the shapes of the shadows: large, medium, small |
|
No Texture or details: Only the shapes of objects , shadows, and highlights. |
|
Get Approval and grade before next step. |
|
Trace your preliminary drawing with sharpie or dark colored pen. |
|
Place preliminary drawing Under another sheet of paper….use as a guide for proportions only. |
|
Look at your sculpture while creating hatching marks according to the values and textures you see. NO OUTLINES. NO OUTLINES. NO OUTLINES. Look at attached sheet on hatching: hatching marks can be curved, diagonal, long, short, wide, thin, crossing, etc. practice marks on separate sheet of paper, differentiate marks for different textures, shapes and shadows. Take the time to do this and you will be very happy with your artwork. |

Show extreme contrast in drawing, using the entire value gradation scale – |
|
show highlights, cast shadows, core shadows, and reflected light. |
|
Drawing must touch all four sides of the illustration board. |
|
Highlights will be the only white showing in the drawing. |
