Spring 2009
It has been a busy year for your BBMS PTA. Let me tell you what has been going on.

With your support, we have had another successful year with our membership drive, winning 4 state awards: the Golden Apple Award for 100% school staff membership, the Early Bird Award for 75% of last year's total by Sept 30, the 10% Increase Award over last year's total membership, and the Membership Chairman's Challenge Award for having 25 or more men members by Oct 15.

Our 2008-2009 PTA Scrapbook won Highest Honor. And we traveled to Austin for PTA Day at the Capitol and met with State Representative Linda Harper Brown about educational issues for children & teens. We also awarded 2 new Life Memberships.

Our fundraising was a big success. Concessions sold at sporting events and  school dances earned $4,122. This helped toward providing TAKS Snacks to each student on all testing days, food & fun at the 8th Grade Day celebration, support & funding for Red Ribbon Week, needed items to the BBMS Memory Garden, and post-prom activities at Ranchview HS. We also donated funds to the new La Villita Elementary PTA.

The Arts in Education program sent 65 students to the Crow Asian Arts Museum as a reward for their entries in the Reflections program. For parents, we presented an Internet Safety program and a College Information Night program.

Donations of items and volunteers hours reached new heights this year: over 1,000 books for the District Gently-Used Book Sale, socks donated to C-FB Clothes Closet along with time sorting & shelving clothing, baskets of treats for staff at 3 non-PTA schools in C-FB, decorations for the Athletics Banquet, and of course, our Monthly Teacher Appreciation which included luncheons, dessert day, coffee bar & candy/cookie spread, mailbox treats, and prize drawings.

Finally, we have elected & appointed 26 new PTA Board members for the 2009-2010 school year. (We'll have that posted on the website soon.)

With your help, the BBMS PTA, Texas PTA, and National PTA are working hard on behalf of our children and youth. Thank you for your support.
