ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Barbara Bush MS says Goodbye to Ms. Opitz & Welcomes New Principal Mr. Warnock
-
After 8 years as Barbara Bush MS Principal, Ms. Lynda Opitz, is retiring,
having spent 36 years in education. Ms. Opitz has
helped lead BBMS to TEA Academically
Recognized status & brought new programs to our campus, including the IB Middle
Years Programme, the BBMS Memory Garden, the Make Your Day Self-Management Program, and the Dr. Phil Anti-bullying Campaign. We are very sad to see her leave, but we
share her excitement about the next phase of her life.
BBMS welcomes our new Principal, Mr. Matt Warnock. Mr. Warnock has been the Associate & Assistant Principal at
Ranchview HS for 5 years, helping to bring both the IB Diploma Programme & the IB Middle Years Programme to the
school. We look forward to a new educational journey with Mr. Warnock at the helm.
- BBMS accepted as International Baccalaureate World School for Middle Years Programme
- As of May 2010, and after a 3-year certification process, Barbara Bush MS became an official International
Baccalaureate World School offering 3 years of the 5-year Middle Years Programme in partnership with Ranchview HS, which also
has the 2-yr Diploma Programme. IB-MYP Coordinator Mavon Wall announced the news at the May 12 PTA meeting. For more information about the International Baccalaureate Organization, visit our IB-MYP link or the International

- BBMS Memory Garden Receives New Furniture!
- On Monday May 17 a beautiful table with a set of stools & a seating
bench were added
to the BBMS Memory Garden by Mr Schirato, father of former
teacher/coach Chad Schirato. Another bench, coming soon, will complete
the updates for the 2009/2010 school year. This
furniture was purchased through donations from several sources
& completes phase 3 of a 5-phase program in the Garden.
Thanks to Mr Schirato & his wise selection & positioning of plants,
the Garden has grown into a lush blooming area. Student crews work at
various times throughout the school year to remove grass & weeds & keep the area picture perfect.
Our student body treats this area with respect
& care--it is an area of pride for them.
We so appreciate the folks who come forward to continue the
legacy of the Garden...the stories of how this area touches people are
comforting & the memories are lasting.
- The BBMS "Memory Garden" was officially opened & dedicated on May 29, 2009
as a place to remember special people who spent time at Barbara Bush
Middle School. Engraved bricks were laid into the patio area in honor of
those who were part of our school but are no longer with us. Click here
for video of the dedication ceremony.
