NSHS CHOIR IS TMEA BOUND!
The Newman Smith High School A Cappella Choir has been selected to perform as a featured choir at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February 2010.
The NSHS Choir is one of only 4 Texas high school mixed choirs selected to perform for the convention attended by approximately 26,000 people associated with music education in Texas.
The A Cappella Choir will perform a 30-minute concert at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, with over 1,000 choral educators in attendance. No high school or middle school band, orchestra or concert choir in the history of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD has been offered this opportunity. It represents the pinnacle of achievement in Texas music education.
In a process that begins with over 80 submissions for blind adjudication, every school choir desiring to perform submits a compilation recording comprised of live performances taped in the past two school years.
The 2010 TMEA Clinic/Convention features workshops for band, orchestra, vocal, elementary and college educators; concerts by the finest musicians, and two exhibit halls filled with booths representing all facets of the music education industry. The convention closes with performances by All-State ensembles comprised of the best high school musicians in the state, selected through a rigorous series of auditions. In 2009, TMEA convention attendance peaked at 25,967 people.
Robin Brockway-Nichols and Clorese Porter are the directors.
