Highlights and Accolades
General
Information
·
Special interest clubs such
as Ecology, Club Med, United Nations, Step Team, Crime Stoppers, Leo’s
(in partnership with the Lions Club), FCA, College Club, Art, Class
Executive Committees, Theater, Quill and Scroll, National Honor
Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Club, French Club, Diversity Club,
Drama Team, and CIS are active at RHS.
·
Academic competitions are
offered in speech/debate, writing, history, math, science and many other
academic subjects.
·
An SAT/ACT preparation
course is provided free of charge during the school day and on
Saturdays.
·
A partnership with the
Dallas County Community Colleges promotes college preparation and
includes courses that award credit at both the college and high school
levels.
·
Student leadership
opportunities are available with the Student Council, Class Executive
Committees, Peer Mediation, Crime Stoppers, PAACK, and our through the
International Baccalaureate Programme.
·
We field competitive
athletic teams in volleyball, basketball, football, golf, tennis, track,
cross country, baseball, softball, hockey and swimming/diving.
·
The National Honor Society,
Quill and Scroll, Tri-M (Music) and Mu Alpha Theta (Math) honor
societies are active on our campus.
·
The class of 2008 earned
$1.2 million in scholarships for post secondary educational
opportunities.
·
RHS earned full
accreditation and an exemplary designation from the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools.
·
RHS athletes advanced to
regional or state competition in golf, track, power lifting, boys
basketball, and swimming/diving.
·
RHS was approved to offer
the prestigious IB Diploma Programme during 11th and 12th
grades. RHS is also a candidate school for the IB Middle Years
Programme to be offered in our 9th and 10th grades
Baseball – 11-3A
·
Four players were selected
for the All-District 1st team
·
Two players were named to
the All-District 2nd team
·
Two players were received
an Honorable Mention award for District play
Softball – 11-3A
·
One player received the
11-3A Superlative Award
·
Four players were to the
All-District 1st team

Two players were named
All-District 2nd team
Basketball
·
Two players were chosen for
the All-District 1st team and one player was selected as the
co-offensive player of the year in District 11-3A.
Cheerleaders
·
Six of our cheerleaders
were nominated for the All-American Cheerleader award
·
Our team was awarded a bid
to the National Championship
·
Four Superior ribbons, two
Excellent ribbons, a spirit stick and the S.P.O.T. Award for stunt
safety were earned during summer competition.
Orchestra
·
Four students made the
All-Region 24 Orchestra, with the competition including schools from
Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Frisco, Southlake
and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD’s.
·
Five Students were selected
to audition for the TMEA All-State Orchestra and one student was
accepted
·
Sixteen students earned
performance medals at District and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contests
·
Eight students advanced and
earned recognition at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin
·
Both the Symphonic and
Concert Orchestras received Sweepstakes Awards at the UIL Concert and
Sight Reading Contest
Choir
·
Awarded Superior ratings in
the UIL Concert and sight Reading Contest
Band
·
Earned Superior ratings in
the UIL Marching Contest and the UUIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest,
the Best in Class award at the Tournament of Champions, and 2nd
Place in the Frisco March of Champions
·
The Las Colinas Symphony
Youth Orchestra selected five RHS students as members: Brad Kirkham on
trumpet, Adrian Stecker on trombone, Matt Solis on tenor tuba, Nick
Poulides, tuba and Shin Park on percussion
·
Four students were selected
to 1st Chairs in the ATSSB Region Band and two were honored
as All State musicians
·
Two students were selected
as members of the elite Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps
Art
·
RHS had the highest number
of students of any C-FB school compete and earn statewide recognition in
the annual VASE art competition
·
Each year that RHS has
participated in VASE, students have scored in the top 3% as Gold Seal
winners
·
RHS student Brandon Floyd
won a scholarship given at the CFB-ISD AP Art Student Exhibit
Student Council
·
We hosted a successful
Spirit Week with hallway decorations, a spirit walk, and a dance
·
We sponsored the RHS
homecoming parade for our feeder elementary schools and the community
·
Our community service
efforts include:
·
Hosting Red Ribbon Week to
promote a drug free lifestyle
·
Holding RHS’ first ever
drug and alcohol awareness program titled “Every 20 Minutes”
·
Making over 2000 PB&J
sandwiches for the Soup Mobile, a local homeless assistance program
·
Joining with other
organizations on campus to do a food/toy/clothing drive during the
holiday season
·
Raising money for the
American Lung Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the
spring
Theater
·
In UIL One Act Play
competition for “You Can’t Take It With You” three students received All
Star Actor awards and two students received Honorable Mention
recognition
UIL Academic Competition
·
24 students participated
and took the District 11-3A championship
·
18 Students traveled to
Texas A&M Commerce to represent Ranchview at region competitions.
